Pick your ride

Onewheel-style boards A single fat tire between two footpads. You lean to go, lean back to stop, and the board balances itself. Electric unicycles One wheel, two pedals, stand sideways-free. Big batteries, long range, steep learning curve. Electric skateboards A skateboard deck with a motor and a handheld remote. Belt drive, hub motors or gear drive. E-scooters Stand-up kick scooter with a motor. The rental fleets made them common; owned ones go further and faster. E-bikes A bicycle with a motor. Most states sort them into Class 1, 2 and 3 by top assisted speed and throttle. Odd stuff Hoverboards, e-foils, electric mountainboards and the rest.

Falls are the part nobody posts

In September 2023 Future Motion and the CPSC recalled about 300,000 Onewheel boards after four deaths from head trauma between 2019 and 2021. CPSC staff count 533 deaths tied to e-scooters, e-bikes and hoverboards from 2017 through 2024.
